Plagued with petty illnesses

Past few days were the gastric flu and headache...
Now the headache's still there but coupled with sore throat.
I hope fever doesn't find its way into my body.

Just let me finish my recital first ok?
Stay out of my way for now, you irritating viruses!

*frown*

Ran through my recital program in class today.
Lao shi was quite happy...

I'll be fine on Thursday. :)

At the clinic

The pain and diarrhoea came back again in the afternoon...while I was practicing in school. So after doing the run-through of my recital program with LJ, I packed up and went to see a doctor at Clementi instead of staying in school to practice. Doctor told me I ate something bad...it was both gastric flu and tummy ache. And at the clinic, this baldy with a beer belly and walking stick entered. The moment he stepped in and sat down, he talked non-stop. To himself. It was playing Pearl Harbour on TV. He would comment on whatever was happening in the movie like a little boy and suddenly burst into laughter. The mee-sees kept shushing him and giving me the yes-I-know-it-but-I-bo-bian-look. And he started S-I-N-G-I-N-G.

Me: Thank God I'm in a clinic. If he whips out a knife or something, there's a doctor just 5 feet away.

Then he picked up the magazines when the other patients (including me) bo hiu him. And he'd comment on what's on the front page and slam it down on the chair...picking up another one and read and comment again.
I couldn't stand it lah...took out my phone and pretended to play games while I was actually
recording him. Was hoping that the doctor would see the siao lang first and make him leave.

But NO! One mee-see bought dinner for the siao lang to eat in the clinic. And he's not there for consultation lor. Maybe he's faking it to get free meals.

Friday was a bad day.

Had gastric pain/bad tummyache from the moment I woke up...diarrhoea and all.
Only until 2am in the morning did the intermittent pains start to subside. I think it's the McSpicy burger I ate the night before...

So it was a day when I never practiced my bassoon at all and moreover it was in school. The Schreiber is at home, but the pains were so bad I could only manage to curl up on the bed at times. And when it wasn't that bad, I sat up and tied my reeds.

At least I got something done...nevertheless, I still feel SO guilty for not having touched my bassoon for 1 day.

Gotta start on my research plan(submission on 2nd March) and essay(submission on 15 March)...but Junior Recital(1st March) first...

I hate to think of deadlines.

I will survive.

Just no more tummyaches for me please...

So tired...My tongue felt so sluggish and when I tried to make it work harder (faster), I get the muscle-ache sensation in my tongue and the back of my neck. Any more pushing and I'd certainly need to be carried away on a stretcher. On top of that, I felt faint whenever I push myself to the limits like that. Perhaps I'm using the wrong muscles. Or hopefully my tongue just decided to go on strike today. I've never experienced such bad aches in the back of my neck from tonguing before. Felt as though it was on the verge of freezing my entire brain. :S

A golden beetle got onto my bag somehow when I was on the way out from school. I only noticed it as I got on the bus. I'm actually quite surprised (and proud too!!!) that I didn't scream and fling my bag 100 metres away. Managed to 'scrape' it off my bag with the edge of the front seat and quickly moved as far away from it as possible. I HATE flying bugs.

When I was really young, I remember my mama telling me that those golden beetles can spit fire. And I actually believed it. Till now, I've never seen it spit fire at me.

Not even cough out smoke.

What a week...

Didn't do my best in preparing for this time's Music history mid-term.

Monday had school until 6plus and was still very tired from the KL trip...
Younger sis was hospitalised that night due to some drug allergy to painkillers that her doctor gave for her backache. So I went to SGH to visit her on Tuesday right after my Bassoon lesson and stayed there till 10plus. Waited so long for a cab and we ended up taking train back home carrying the fruits basket that Barweils sent to my sis. Tired again. Ended up holding my notes to sleep.

Wednesday was another long day of school and rehearsal for Carol's senior recital ended at 6plus. Good thing was we had pizzas and chicken wings to eat after that.

Btw, I was so blardy pissed by this year 1 boy from the land of animal cruelty and cheap labour (Yes, I'm being mean here, cos I'm really in a lousy mood this week). I asked him to play the note that we have in unison. I hummed it and thought it was a tad too sharp. So I asked him if he could lower the pitch. He said, " My 'E' is always quite in tune with the tuner. Maybe you should go sharper." My face immediately went black and I shut up. Screw you! It's not even my composition, why am I so concerned about it? If you think you're so in-tune, so be it. Your teacher will put you back in your rightful place soon enough.

Anyway, after the satisfying pizza dinner, I went for cheryl's recital. That went really well and I'm so glad for her. Auntie took a picture of me as evidence that I was there! In fact, I had told Cheryl earlier that morning I wasn't going to be there for her recital cos I had to prepare for my mid-term exam the next day. But clever Auntie took my picture liao...so I had better turn up for her recital! :p

Saw Midori, Wang Tong and some of her students among her friends and family who were present at her recital. So after the recital, we all headed to Regent Hotel to listen to Dr. Mak play jazz with the Jeremy Monteiro trio until about 12am. Crap. I had wanted to go home, but Cheryl was going to leave for USA the next morning and not coming back until 3 wks after...I guess I could sacrifice that bit of time to celebrate and send her off as well. Oh, and I bumped into my music history teacher with her MPO musician-husband at the hotel entrance! Haha...Just now she asked me if I had enjoyed last night. I told her I couldn't really, cos I was so stressed up about her exam. HAH.

At home, I slept for 3hours (again! that's the 3rd time in less than a week! :). Then woke up to study. I tried to study too much again and in the end didn't get much things into my tired brain. Sigh. After tonight's recital, no more Shulamite Women for me!!!

And YES. Friday's coming! T.G.F.F. (Thank God for Fridays) :)

Belated Birthday celebration with The Girls!

All 6 of us met for dinner at Clementi for dinner before going to Karaoke at Partyworld.

How incredibly boring!

Well, Karaoke was GREAT FUN!!!
Sang till my voice was hoarse.
(It's actually just that ONE happy song by 五月天 that made me shout throughout the whole song :p)

---Present giving time---

They gave me an ANG POW lor! With a FAKE card made of 2 plain white A4-sized papers printed with 2 pictures of a Nike Sports shoe and birthday greetings written all over it...plus lots of apologies. How creative, my girls. Next time perhaps you all can try writing on tissue paper! *roll eyes*

Girls, time to buck up! (BUSY's not a very good excuse ok?)
I'll make sure to get the next birthday girl a real proper present and a real card! (sorry for missing out the card last year! Everyone was so slack lor!) Tsk Tsk Tsk...

Speaking of ang pow...this year I got all my presents in cash/voucher form...Hmm...

I always think cash/vouchers are the most practical of all presents to give. They might appear as insincere gifts, but I guess it's always difficult to get something like dresses/shoes cos they might not fit (in all ways)! Think of how many birthday presents/christmas presents you've received that were NEVER used at all (well, that's if they aren't ornaments, plush toys or musical boxes in the first place)!

Anyway, I'm SO GLAD to see EVERYONE present! Miss those good ol' times...
Love you all!

On the train...

Was on the way home and reading my book.
This odd couple came in, saw 2 empty seats sandwiching me and...sat down.

Why are they odd?
Firstly, the man is old.
Secondly, the woman is young (seems to be those Vietnamese who come over to S'pore to get married).

Oh anyway, when there were 2 empty seats next to each other available, they immediately shifted. That old man (in his 50s) put his hand on the woman's thigh right away when she sat down. Then he half forced the woman to rest her head on his shoulder and started stroking her face and neck...The next thing was he put his arm around the woman and hugged her really tightly.

It perhaps isn't very intimate behaviour...but please if you want to do anything that will make the people around you feel uncomfortable, please do it away from public eyes.

Intimacy in public view is really not very pleasant.

Post concert

Went to my first *SO concert (in 2007) just now with the school peeps.

As I about to walk down the row to my seat, I saw Ah Boy*.
And he came with a guy friend.

Ah Boy*: Hi! How are you??? (he asked me in a very cheery voice)
Me: Hi! I'm fine thank you! How.... (he interrupted) are you....?
Ah Boy*: Good!
Me gave a huge smile and walked down the row to my seat.

(after a while)

Ah Boy* moved in to sit next to me cos he and guy friend were at the wrong seats... (-_-)"'

Ah Boy*: Is JM playing todeee?
Me: Oh no, he isn't.
Ah Boy*: Aye seeee...(turns to talk to guy friend)

(a few seconds after)

Ah Boy*: Who is playing the flute solo?
Me: Oh, it's JT. (smile...)
Ah Boy*: Aye seee...(turns to talk to guy friend again)

JT's solo in Debussy lulled me to sleep and that very well lasted the rest of the 1st half too.

Ah Boy* and guy friend slipped off during the intermission. hmm...

I was fully awake by 2nd half cos they were playing Brahms 4 (the conservatory's playing it in exactly one week's time). Guess who I saw? Ah Wang came in and sat behind me.

The strings surprised me by their mostly-good ensemble playing...but the winds were rather disappointing.
I expected much more from the usually great winds.
Perhaps 3/4 of the principals were missing...that's why?

Anyway, the interpretation wasn't to my taste too. It somehow sounded quite sui bian and hurriedly rehearsed. Didn't really understand what OK was conducting also... :S

Maybe I could have caught more things
if DL didn't keep talking to me every 5secs.

* names have been changed to protect the identities of the persons mentioned. But I guess you smarties have no problem guessing lah... *wink*

Coco's so clever! But poor Coco kept getting shouted at by my sis (even when Coco's already obeying her commands!)...

Coco, I'd have bitten her if I were you.

Do that the next time you come to my house okay?

Coco's such a pig...please try not to drool too much the next time you come hor...cos my dad will make a fuss and clean up the floor after you leave.

Nice Jap song from Anime "Honey and Clover"

Warui tsume wo hagu toki mitai ni itsuka yukkuri hagarete iku no kanaa

English Translation:

You never were in love with me to begin with, I think...
I don't really care when I think about it.
It's not like I can go back and check.

Who am I supposed to hate?
What emotions am I supposed to hold back?
Was the person who left without a goodbye the sadder of the two?
Hey, all my heart can do now is hurt.

I'm just crying here pathetically.
I hear sorrow repeat over and over like the waves.
I wonder if it'll grow out on its own like a damaged fingernail?
