MPO concert on 14th Jul 07 in KL
At the MPO concert that evening...
I liked Wagner's Prelude to Die Meistersingers, which was the opening piece. Followed by that was Joshua Bell playing Prokofiev's Violin Concerto no.2. It's A.M.A.Z.I.N.G how Bell managed to capture my attention with his first few notes already. Even though I've not heard this concerto prior to this, I liked the performance...he has a very good tone. :)
Second half was unbearable cos it was Bruckner's symphony no.6...I have never really liked Bruckner and don't think I will for a very long time to come. What made it worse was when my nose suddenly became irritated and started to run. And the Bruckner was 55mins long!!! I was stuck in a concert hall with music I didn't like, a runny nose and no tissue at all. I had to keep sniffing to not make a mess of myself. When Bruckner finally ended, my nose stopped running too. I MUST be allergic to Bruckner. That must be it.
The next morning, we met Frankie who's just finished playing for a gig the night before...well we woke up late and in the end he only met us for a while before he had to leave for s'pore. Later that afternoon, we met Liz who had just won a concerto competition the night before! She'll have her concerto debut next year with the ad-hoc orchestra playing Haydn's Cello Concerto No.2 in D major. Congrats Liz!!!
Think I've only heard the 1st cello concerto by Haydn before and I love it to bits. Haydn and Mozart music, in fact music of that period, were meant to be pleasing, for entertainment...
Anyway, I've digressed. So we got a treat from the fresh-out-of-the-oven concerto winner! :D A pity we never got to see little Nicole, so we had to pass the bubble gun prezzie to her mummy.
Glad we got the right toy for her cos her mummy said she's crazy about bubbles! :)
